Prompt: Write a short story about a man who discovers a magical portal

Tom was feeling down in the dumps. He had been feeling this way for a few weeks now and he didn’t know why. He had his job, his friends, and he was generally happy. However, something was just missing. He was getting closer and closer to the bottom of his well and he didn’t know what to do to get out.
One morning, as he was walking to work, he found himself in front of a construction site. It was a strange site. The only thing around was a huge hole in the ground. As he approached, he could see that it was littered with construction equipment and building supplies. But as he got closer, he saw that there was something else in the hole.
There was a portal. A beautiful, magical portal.
Tom didn’t know what to do. He had never seen anything like it before. But he knew he had to go through it. He had to see what was on the other side.
As he stepped through the portal, he found himself in a strange, new world. It was a beautiful place, full of towering mountains and clear blue sky. There was a river running through the city and Tom could see people walking by, talking and laughing.
As he looked around, he could see that the people here were not like the people back home. They were taller and stronger, with clear skin and golden eyes.
He didn’t know what to do. He had never been this far away from home before. He didn’t know what to do except to explore.
He started walking down the river, looking for somewhere to stay. He found a nice little town and decided to explore a little bit more. As he was walking down a street, he heard a voice calling his name.
He turned to see a woman walking towards him. She was beautiful, with long, golden hair and bright green eyes.
She smiled at him and said, “I have been waiting for you. Welcome to my world.”
