Prompt: Write a short story about a man who discovers a magical portal

John had always been interested in the paranormal, ever since he was a young boy. One night, while lying in bed, he had a sudden revelation. He was not alone in the world. There were other people who were interested in the paranormal, and maybe there was even something out there that was more mysterious than he could possibly imagine.
That night, John made up his mind. He was going to find this portal, and explore the other side. He started by looking for any clues he could find, and eventually he stumbled upon a website that mentioned a possible portal in the woods near his home.
So John packed his bag and decided to take a walk to the woods. Once he was there, he could feel the energy of the portal emanating from the ground. He stepped forward, and suddenly he was staring into the eyes of a strange creature.
This creature was different from anything John had ever seen before. It looked like a giant man, with wings protruding from its back. John didn’t know what to do, but the creature appeared to be in a state of excitement, as if it was eager to show John something.
John had a feeling that this was definitely not normal, so he decided to back away from the portal. As he did, he noticed that the woods around him were starting to change. The trees were growing taller and more muscular, and the undergrowth was transforming intosharp teeth.
John was terrified, but he knew he had to keep going. He had to find out what was behind this portal. As he continued to walk, the trees became so dense that he couldn’t see the sky anymore. Finally, he found himself in a place like he had never seen before.
There was a massive palace in front of him, with turrets and balconies extending all around it. John could see people walking around inside, and he even saw a large group of creatures fly down from one of the towers and land in a nearby pond.
John was overwhelmed by the scene before him, and he didn’t know what to do. He was about to turn back when he saw a figure step out from one of the balconies. It was the same creature that had shown up in the woods the night before, and it was smiling at John knowingly.
John was scared, but he also knew that he had found his way to the other side of the portal. He had witnessed something extraordinary, and he wasn’t sure what would happen next, but he knew that he needed to keep exploring.
