1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt
1 cup milk
3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour an 8-inch cake pan and line with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well combined. Stir in vanilla. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Stir in milk.
3. Pour batter into cake pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top.
4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in pan for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
