1 cup sugar

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour one 9-inch cake pan or two 8-inch cake pans; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
3. In another large bowl, combine oil, eggs, and vanilla extract; mix well.
4. Add oil mixture to flour mixture, and stir until well blended. Stir in hot water.
5. Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Sprinkle each layer with chocolate chips.
6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool cake in pans for 10 minutes; remove from pans to a wire rack to cool completely.
7. Cut into 36 slices.
