Prompt: Write a short story about a man who discovers a magical portal

James had always been interested in the paranormal, ever since he was a kid. He had always been fascinated by the stories of people who claimed to have seen otherworldly creatures. So when he found a portal in his attic, he knew he had to explore it.
He climbed up the ladders to the attic and found the portal. It was a simple wooden door, with a tarnished brass handle. He turned the handle, and a bright light filled the room. He stepped through the portal, and he was transported to an unknown world.
He was surrounded by strange creatures, some of which he had never seen before. They were all brightly coloured, and they seemed to be happy to see him. He didn’t know what to do, so he just stood there, staring at them. Suddenly, one of the creatures came up to him and put its hand on his shoulder. James felt a shock of electricity go through him, and then he was back in his own world. He realised that he had been touching one of the creatures, and he quickly withdrew his hand.
He climbed back down the ladders, feeling very mystified by what he had seen. He knew that he would never forget this world, and he would certainly be back to explore it again.
