The opening lyric of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” played in John’s head as he stepped through the newly discovered portal. He was in amazement, not only at the sight before him, but the feelings that suddenly assailed him. He had never felt so alive before.
He took a few tentative steps forward before halting and gazing around in wonder. There was a sense of peace and calm that emanated from the surroundings. He could feel his stress disappear and his worries melt away. He felt like he was finally home.
He walked for hours, exploring the different areas of the portal, not realizing how late it was getting. He was so happy and content that he didn’t want the day to end. Eventually, he made his way back to the portal and stepped through.
When he woke up the next morning, he realized that it had all been a dream. He was disappointed that he hadn’t been able to explore the portal any further, but he was still happy that he had found it. John wondered if there were other portals like it out there, waiting for someone to find them.
