Prompt: Write a short story about a man who discovers a magical portal
Response:
I always thought there was something strange about the attic. The creaks and moans it made when the wind blew through the cracks in the roof were enough to give anyone the jitters, but to me, it was the only place that felt truly special.
I was always drawn to the attic, even though I was never sure why. Maybe it was the way the light shone through the cracks and into the many dusty shelves, or maybe it was the strange aroma that seemed to emanate from the place.
One day, I decided to take a look for myself. I had been sneaking peeks at the attic from my bedroom window for months, and finally had the courage to go exploring.
As I entered the attic, I was overcome with a feeling of warmth. I could actually hear the sound of the wind blowing through the cracks in the roof, and it was strangely reassuring.
I started slowly, exploring each corner of the attic and examining the mysterious objects that were stored there. I was amazed by the many old books, pictures, and artifacts that I found.
As I was looking through one of the shelves, I saw a small, black object lying at the bottom. I couldn’t resist reaching down and picking it up, and as I did, I felt a strange force emanating from the object.
I was horrified as I realized that the object was a portal key. I had never seen anything like it before, and I didn’t know what it could do but I knew that I had to take it back to my room and study it.
I quickly made my way back to my room, and as I entered, I could feel the magic of the attic flowing through me. I lay down on my bed and closed my eyes, letting the magic take over.
When I opened my eyes, I was in a different place. I couldn’t explain how or why, but I was now standing in front of a large, magical portal.
I didn’t know what to do, but I knew that this was the place where I was supposed to go. I stepped through the portal, and found myself in a new and magical world.
