Alec had always been a skeptic. He refused to believe in magic and science fiction, preferring to live in the concretereality of the 21st century. But when he was hit by a car while cycling, the accident caused serious injuries that left him in a coma for a year. In that time, he had a series of terrifying dreams in which he was visited by a strange woman who claimed to be a magical being. In the last dream, the woman showed him a door that led to a magical world. When he awakened from his coma, he decided to explore this world himself. When he opened the door, he found himself in a strange room with a large, bright portal. He stepped through and found himself in a completely new and different world. This world was full of magical creatures and appeared to be the same age as his own. Alec decided to stay and explore this world, which he soon discovered was called the Veil.
