Prompt: Write a short story about a man who discovers a magical portal

Dan woke up on a Monday morning feeling refreshed and ready to take on the week. He got out of bed, got dressed, and headed out the door. As he walked to his car, he noticed a strange object in the street. He stepped closer to get a better look and realized it was a portal. He briefly considered what he might do with such a thing, but then he realized there was no way he was going to be able to resist going through it. As he stepped through the portal, he found himself in a completely different world.
He was surrounded by strange creatures and plants that he had never seen before. He wandered around for a while, taking in the new sights and sounds. Eventually, he came across a small village. He went in and started talking to the people. They showed him around and told him about the customs and rituals of their culture.
The more he learned, the more he wanted to stay and explore this new world. But he knew he couldn’t stay any longer than he already had. He had to get back to his own world and tell his friends about what he had seen. As he walked back through the portal, he couldn’t help but feel excited about the possibilities this new world had to offer.
